Hard days
Why the evenings feel so empty
Eight fifteen on a weeknight. Dinner's done. The evening stretches out, and nothing in it pulls at you. You wander between rooms. You pick up your phone, put it down, pick it up again. So now what? It's a restless, hollow boredom, and it's real.
A lot of those minutes used to belong to the cigarette. After dinner. Between tasks. The pause before bed. The cigarette took those minutes and passed them off as rest. Now they're back in your hands, unfurnished. An empty room always echoes right after the old couch goes out.
This is a furnishing problem, not a soul problem. You got your time back in odd shaped pieces. Put things in them. The walk. The call. The book you swore you'd get to. God handed these minutes back, and He trusts you with them.
Pick tonight's emptiest stretch, the one right after dinner, and put one of those things in it on purpose. Something that's yours. Some of it will stick. That's how a new life gets furnished, one evening at a time. You're not bored because freedom is dull. You're early to your own life.
