Hard days
When prayer hits the ceiling
Lately you say the words and they hit the ceiling. Nothing warms. Nothing settles. No sense of anyone on the other end. Prayer used to do something, and now it goes nowhere. Underneath, a fear is forming. Maybe right in the middle of this good, hard thing, God pulled back. The fear makes sense. It just isn't true.
Check what else has gone flat. Maybe food tastes fine and lands nowhere. A song you love plays and passes through. Good news registers as a fact, not a feeling. The flatness isn't picky, and prayer isn't the exception. Nicotine had its hand on your feeling dial, and part of this may be the dial resetting. What you feel in prayer runs through that same dial.
So you've been measuring the wrong thing. The station never stopped broadcasting. Your radio's just between frequencies for a while. God isn't a mood, and He doesn't leave when your chemistry dips. People who've walked furthest with Him describe long dry stretches like this one. They kept showing up to a God who never needed good reception to be there.
Keep showing up. Tell Him the truth, plain. I can't feel You. I'm here anyway. Anyone can pray when it feels warm. Praying into static, with no payoff, is closer to faith than the warm version ever was. And if everything stays gray week after week, let a doctor in on it. That's showing up too. You're praying right now, with nothing between you and Him anymore, and He hears it.
