Hard days
What your old attempts know
Your old attempts showed up today, uninvited. The stretch that ended at a party, maybe. The one with the app and the big announcement. The week you swore was the real one. They aren't arriving as memories. They're arriving as a forecast, and it claims you already know how this ends.
Memory makes a lousy prophet. It grades its own work and leaves out every hour you held. Each of those attempts means you've already done the hard beginning, more than once. The deciding. The first rough days. The first time you said no and meant it. None of it was fake because it ended. Nicotine wrote the ending each time and signed your name to it.
Read them as a map instead. Each one ended somewhere specific. A certain hour, a certain drink, a hard week, one person, a trip. You're not confessing here. You're marking where the road washed out. God wasted none of those miles. You drew that map the hard way, by walking it.
Now name one thing that's different this time. Something you can point at. Maybe you know your trigger by name now. Maybe you have a plan for the hour that got you last time. Maybe you're talking to God daily, instead of only when it's bad. Say yours out loud, like you mean it. I know where the road washes out now, and this time I'm getting free.
