Hard days

What a flat day proves

What do you get for a day like this? You stayed free from morning to night and felt nothing about it. No pride. No relief. No lift at the end. Another day on the tally, and nothing moved. It feels like pouring yourself into something that's stopped paying back.

Anyone can stay free on a day that pays. Strong days lift you. Praise lifts you. Today lifted nothing, and you did it anyway. Momentum could explain the good days. This one, only you can explain, and God saw every unpaid hour of it. A choice made for zero reward is the one that proves who you are.

The payoff is late, and late isn't cancelled. For a while, a cigarette doled out a good feeling on a timer, earned or not. Your brain leaned on it instead of making its own. Part of this flatness may be your own supply coming back online. It's like walking indoors from bright sun. For a minute everything looks dim. Your eyes aren't failing. They're adjusting, and so are you.

Tonight, write one plain line. "Nothing happened, and I stayed free." Put the date on it. If this flat stretch turns into your normal, tell a doctor. Asking is part of getting well. Moods forget. Facts keep, and this one says free.
