Hard days
They're still checking your jacket
"We'll see." Two small words, and they land harder than any craving. Someone at home is watching you closely. The glance at your jacket when you walk in. The pause before they believe you're fine. A person you love is keeping a file on you. The hardest part is the voice in you that wonders if they're right.
Your first instinct is to argue. List the days. Make them say they believe you. Skip the trial. You can't talk anyone into trust, and you both know why. Nicotine borrowed against your word and left you holding the bill. Words are the one currency this house stopped taking.
Their doubt isn't cruelty. It's caution. When a stair has given way once, people test it with one foot for a while. They aren't insulting the stair. They're remembering. Stairs earn trust the boring way, by holding. Every plain day with nothing dramatic in it is another step that held. You can build that without anyone's permission.
Today, give them one plain, boring day to look at. Be where you said you'd be, when you said you'd be there. Let the doubt sit in the room and cost you nothing. God already sees what's true about today. He isn't waiting for a second opinion from your kitchen, and He'll stand with you through the slow part. Their trust can take its time. Your freedom already started.
