Hard days

The low that needs a phone call

Most heavy weeks pass. You've heard it here, and it's true. But good advice has an edge, and you deserve to know where it is. A bruise that keeps changing color is healing. One that stays the same dark shade for weeks needs someone to look at it. Low moods work the same way. You're close enough to yours to tell which kind this is.

Plain markers, no drama: you've stopped eating, or you can't stop. Sleep's been strange for weeks, not days. Things you love have gone dead, not dim. The heaviness held straight through good days that should've lifted it. And if thoughts of not being here have shown up, even quiet ones, that's a call today. A doctor, a crisis line, anyone who answers.

If some of that is you, hear what it means. Needing help isn't the quit failing. Coming off something can uncover a low that was there underneath all along. Nicotine may have been muffling it and taking credit for keeping you okay. A good doctor can treat that low head on. Going back to smoking was never the cure for a heavy mind.

Say it to one person today. Your doctor. A counselor. The friend who keeps asking and keeps hearing fine. One sentence does it. This has gone on too long, and I need help. That takes more nerve than white knuckling a bad month alone. God puts people in your path on purpose, and some of them are waiting for you to ask. Reaching for them is part of getting free.
