Hard days
The hour your mood forgot
Ask a low mood how today went and you get the answer a teenager gives about school. One word. Bad. No details, no timestamps, no exceptions. Sixteen hours filed under one label. It isn't lying, exactly. It's compressing, and it always rounds down. A flat day is almost never flat all the way through.
Go back through it slowly and find the stretch that was okay. Not good. Okay is the whole target. Ten minutes with a song you like. Twenty minutes inside a task where you forgot to check on yourself. A text that made you laugh. The cigarette used to stamp its name on minutes like these. Today they showed up without it.
Patchy and total are two different diagnoses. Total would mean nothing reaches you. Patchy means it moves, so it'll move again. One okay hour is evidence the mood can't argue with, because you were there for it. It happened today, not in some better month.
Found it? Text it to yourself, one line, so tomorrow's mood can't edit it. Today, from about two to three, I was fine. That's a fact, and facts hold when encouragement slides off. God slipped that hour into a bad day without a word. It was a free hour, and it was yours.
