Hard days

The alarm you forgot to cancel

The alarm you forgot to switch off went off anyway. There was nowhere to be. When the work ended, two things walked out with it. One was the money, a problem with a shape. The other was the reason to get up, the place people expected you, the answer when someone asks what you do. That second loss is the one keeping you on the edge of the bed.

Take an honest inventory. A contract ended. A role ended, not a person. Your skills didn't leave with the badge. Neither did what you know, or who you are to the people who love you. You've also been doing something hard lately, getting free, with nobody paying you for it. They took the arrangement. They never touched the one who kept showing up.

Formless days are where the damage happens now. Nicotine would happily become your new boss and clock you in every hour. Give the day bones instead. One fixed point in the morning, one in the afternoon. Out the door by nine. A walk at four. Set two alarms for tomorrow before you sleep. That's tonight's whole job.

Almost nothing this week is your call. Who calls back, how long it takes, what the market does. Staying free is the one thing nobody can veto. It carries extra weight now, because so little else is in your hands. God is still writing this chapter, and He hasn't lost your page. They took the job. Everything else, starting with your freedom, is still yours.
