Hard days
Standing in the fridge light again
What are you looking for in there? It's the fourth time tonight. Door open, light on, same shelves, nothing you want. You close it and come back ten minutes later. A whole ritual used to live in the gaps of your day, and now crackers and sweets are filling in. Some of this isn't hunger. It's hands with no job.
Both halves deserve an honest answer. Part of it may be real appetite, because your body's adjusting, and hunger isn't a character flaw. Part of it is ritual. Hand to mouth, a pause, a little punctuation mark in the afternoon. The cigarette squatted in those gaps long enough that they forgot how to be empty.
One big change at a time. You're already doing something hard. Stack a strict diet on top and you risk dropping the one that matters most, while feeling proud of the other. Eating tends to settle as the rest of you steadies. If a few pounds show up meanwhile, that's a fair trade and a fixable one.
Let the fridge be a little messy for now, and turn away the guilt that wants to tag along. Guilt has never helped anyone eat better. Next meal, make it a real one and sit down to eat it. God built your body to mend, and it's mending. Those gaps used to belong to the cigarette. Now they're breathing room, and they're yours.
