Hard days

No rescue came. Something else did.

You asked. More than once, in the plainest words you had. The thing didn't lift. It's sitting in the same spot it sat the morning you first asked. So you stopped asking. What you feel now isn't doubt. It's embarrassment, for hoping out loud and hearing nothing.

There are two things you can be given. One is rescue. The other is company. You asked for the first and took the silence to mean neither came. But look at what you've been doing since. Getting up. Showing up. Choosing freedom through a stretch that could have flattened you. God didn't lift the weight. He got under it with you.

The circumstance hasn't changed. You have. It's like grocery bags that used to take two trips and now come in one. Same weight. Stronger arms. There's no notification when that happens. A cigarette promised rescue in minutes and handed the problem back heavier. This help is slower, and it starts in you.

Keep turning toward Him, and make it tiny. One breath while the coffee brews or the page loads. No request needed, only your presence. Still here. Still Yours. You weren't foolish to ask. You got company, the kind that doesn't wear off. You're walking this free, and you aren't walking it alone.
