Hard days

Grieving the time it took

Somewhere today your mind did a subtraction. The age you started. The age you are now. The stretch in between. Nicotine took attention, money, hours, and whole conversations you were only half inside. Pretending that's fine would be one more lie. What's sitting on you isn't a craving. It's grief.

Let yourself mourn it tonight. Grief that gets named moves on. Grief that gets managed moves in. Then comes the old equation. So much is gone that tonight can't matter. That's like burning one slice of toast and throwing out the whole loaf. That math has one answer every time. Lose more.

Past time can't be spent, saved, or refunded. The only hour anyone gets to spend is the one passing now. God works forward. He's never been limited by how late someone arrived. He isn't holding the lost stretch against you. He's here, in the hours still ahead, and He means to fill them.

Spend this evening like it counts, because it does. Cook something real instead of eating standing at the counter. Sit down to eat it. If it's still pressing on you weeks from now, say so to your doctor or a friend who listens well. Reaching out is part of healing. You can't add to what you had. What's left belongs to you now, every hour of it.
