Hard days

A tired brain writes bad reports

3:14. Your phone lit up the ceiling and you were wide awake again. Maybe you went down fine and surfaced four times. Maybe your body just wouldn't switch off. You figured quitting would mean finally sleeping like a normal person. Instead, the nights got worse first.

Four broken hours make the whole world look like depression. Nothing's interesting. Small jobs feel enormous. The future looks thin. Before you believe anything your mood says today, subtract the night. A lot of this weight was made between two and five this morning. That's a tired brain filing a report on a tired brain.

The nights are rough for an honest reason. The cigarette bent your nights around its own clock and called it rest. Now your body has to relearn sleep on its own. That takes weeks, not one heroic night. This tiredness is a stage of healing, not a problem you're stuck with.

Give up on fixing your mood today. Protect tomorrow night with one boring change tonight. Same bedtime as last night. Screens off twenty minutes early. The room a little cooler. Pick one, because boring repeats. If the nights stay broken for weeks, a doctor can help, and asking is smart. Before you lie down, hand the night over. Keep watch tonight, Lord. I'll rest when I can. Rough nights are part of the way out, and the way out ends in real rest.
