Your next cold is good news

Your next cold might be the best evidence you've got. Maybe your colds used to show up like everybody else's, then stay like a houseguest who'd found the spare key. Friends were over it in a week. You were still coughing a month later. You stopped calling it sick and started calling it your chest.

Your airways are built to show germs the door. Smoking kept them irritated and slow at the job, so a passing bug had time to unpack. The cold wasn't tougher. Your defenses were busy mopping up after the last cigarette. The cigarette turned every houseguest into a tenant.

Take away the daily irritation and your airways can get back to their real work. God built that defense into you, and now He's putting it back on duty. Then a cold gets to behave like a cold. A few rough days, a box of tissues, gone. Getting ordinary sick is a win.

When the next one hits, grab a pen. Write down the day it starts and the day you feel human again. Stick the note inside a cupboard door. It's proof of repair work you'll never watch, done while you sleep. That short gap is what freedom looks like on paper.
