Nobody craves a trick they've seen
Most people think quitting means gritting your teeth for the rest of your life. Every evening a standoff. Every party a test. No wonder it sounds exhausting. That isn't the plan here. You're not out to overpower the want. You're out to see straight through it.
The want runs on one belief. That a cigarette gives you something. Calm, focus, a break. Look closely and the belief falls apart. The calm was relief from the last dose wearing off. The break was the nagging going quiet for a while. The cigarette started the itch, then charged you for every scratch.
Ever had someone show you how a card trick works? The card was tucked in the magician's palm the whole time. After that, he can run it all night. It never lands again. You're too busy watching his hand. You can't crave something you've stopped believing in.
Try it the next time the want shows up. Ask it one plain question. What are you offering me, exactly? Let it answer. Then watch the answer come apart in your hands. Holding out forever was never the assignment. God hands you the truth instead, and the truth doesn't get tired. I'm not resisting anything. I just stopped buying it.
