Your big plans are the problem
A little momentum shows up, and out comes the list. Up at five. Run three days a week. Finally clear out that closet. The energy's real. By Thursday most of it's gone, and the part of you that keeps score adds another line to the old column. You didn't fail because you're lazy. You set the wrong dial.
Self trust doesn't care how big a promise is. It tracks one thing, whether you kept it. The cigarette did its best business on those Thursdays, right after the grand plan collapsed. Shrink the promise until failing is nearly impossible. Shoes on and one step outside, not a run. One shelf, not the closet. If it could still slip, it isn't small enough.
Nobody pours the dirt path across a park lawn. Feet wear it in, one crossing at a time, until the grass gives up. Trust in your own word gets built the same way. No big declaration. Just crossings. Ten small kept promises can outvote a long record of broken ones.
Pick one now, before you close this. Two minutes, doable in exactly the mood you're in. Say it once, then ask for backup. Lord, help me keep this small one. Do it with no upgrades halfway through. Finishing exactly what you said is the whole win. One more crossing. When I say it, it happens.
