Becoming free

You stopped canceling on yourself

Everyone knows that friend. The one who says see you Saturday and cancels Friday night. After a while you stop believing the plans. You nod and make a backup. You love them. You just don't plan around them. The cigarette turned you into that friend, to yourself.

Last one. Starting Monday. Just this weekend. Every broken deal taught you that your own word was decoration. Then one promise held. It felt small at the time. Then another held. The promises didn't get easier. The person making them changed.

Self trust gets built one kept word at a time. And it spreads. People who keep the hard promise start keeping the small ones too. The early night. The honest conversation. The thing you said you'd start. You've been training on the heaviest weight there is.

Your word counts again, with you and with God. Ask Him in on the next one. Help me keep the next small promise too. Then make one today. Small, specific, done by bedtime. A walk, a call you owe, ten minutes on the thing you keep putting off. Keep it. See you Saturday. This time, you'll show.
