Becoming free
You only chose once
You decided about nicotine exactly once. Somebody offered, or you went and got it yourself, and you said yes with a whole free mind. That was a real choice. Then try counting what came after. You can't. And almost none of those felt like deciding. They just showed up, on time, in order.
Those weren't choices. They were collections. Like an autopay line on a bank statement, they went through every cycle whether you looked or not. The cigarette took one yes and kept billing you for it. Nobody deliberates over an autopay. That's why so many of them never felt like a decision. They weren't.
People brace for quitting like it'll cost them their freedom. Like the old life was full of choices and this one will be full of rules. It runs the other way. Your will wasn't being spent back then. It was being held by something else. Free will was God's gift to you, and it's back in your hands.
Next time the thought shows up, you'll make this decision again. Make it slowly and on purpose. Let God in on it. This one's mine, Lord. Help me choose well. It may feel stiff. Anything left unused does. That stiffness is a muscle waking up.
