Whenever I want, you said
There's a fire extinguisher on a wall near you that nobody's ever used. Everyone assumes it works. Nobody's pulled the pin to find out. You had one of those too. 'I can stop whenever I want.' Maybe you said it to a sibling, a doctor, a mirror late at night. You mostly believed it. It just never got tested.
There was always a reason today wasn't the day, and another today waiting behind it. The cigarette loved that sentence. It kept you promising instead of checking. Then you pulled the pin. A real start, real conditions, no fudging the result. A line you'd carried as decoration finally went under load.
A boast needs defending. It makes you a little loud and a little nervous, and it steers you clear of anything that might check it. Evidence just sits there being true. True on strong days. True on rotten ones. You're not guessing about yourself anymore. You're finding out, one ordinary day at a time. A finding never has to raise its voice.
Put the finding on record. Open your phone's notes, type today's date, and write one line. 'I said I could, and I'm doing it.' The next hard thing you say you can do, you'll have real reason to believe yourself. God held you through every day of this test, the rotten ones included. Thank You for letting me find out. The pin's pulled. It works.
