What the hard part proves

"If it's this hard to stop, I must have loved it." Maybe you've never said it out loud. It still runs underneath everything. The difficulty feels like evidence for the other side. Worse, it feels like evidence about you. Weak. Undisciplined. Stuck on something other people seem to drop without a scene. That verdict comes from the wrong test.

Run the real test on something you love. Your favorite song. Go a month without it. You'd miss it. You might even be annoyed. You wouldn't be up at midnight bargaining with yourself, or swearing this is the last time, again. Nothing you love defends itself like this.

What pushes back that hard isn't a pleasure. It's a hook, and this is what a hook feels like once it stops being fed. The cigarette impersonated love. Difficulty measures how deep it went, not how good it was. The harder this is, the more you're getting back. You aren't failing a small task. You're finishing a huge one.

God isn't disappointed by how hard this is. He's in the middle of it with you, taking the heavy end. Before you sleep tonight, say one honest sentence out loud, plain as a fact. This was hard because it held me tight, and I'm leaving anyway.
