The sentence that ends the bidding

I'm trying to quit. That's a status update. I don't smoke. That's a fact. Same person, two very different futures. The first one tells everyone, you included, that the matter is still open. The second one closes it.

Trying works like an auction that's still running. Offers keep coming in. From friends, from stress, from your own head at midnight. Everyone assumes the price might drop. Can't isn't much better. It sounds like a rule leaning on someone who still wants it. The cigarette loves both words, because they keep the bidding open.

Don't is the hammer coming down. Sold. Nothing left to bid on. And you've earned that word. Every urge you've outlasted stands behind it. Use it at a party, at a family dinner, inside your own head. Two words, no story, subject closed. Watch how fast people accept it. Watch how fast you do.

Scripture says the tongue holds the power of life. What you keep saying about yourself, you start living. God hands you the true sentence and stands behind it. Next time it's offered, say the free version, then ask them about their weekend. Short. Friendly. Present tense. No thanks. I don't.
