Becoming free

The day you forget to notice

It'll happen on some forgettable Wednesday. Maybe it already has. You're switching off the kitchen light at night and it hits you. You haven't thought about smoking since breakfast. Not once. No count, no bargaining, nothing. That's the milestone nobody puts on a chart, and it's the best one.

Early freedom is loud. Counters, milestones, effort. The cigarette used to elbow into every hour of your day, so of course getting it out made some noise. Real freedom is quiet. It isn't the absence of a cigarette. It's the absence of the question.

When the intensity fades, let that be good news. The counting feels less urgent. Even these reads feel less necessary. Stay honest about your triggers, sure. But what God's been building is holding weight on its own now. That's how He does a lot of His best work. No thunder. Just a whole day handed back.

When you catch one of those days, write the date down. A sticky note on the mirror. The calendar on the fridge. Anywhere. Nobody throws a party for it. Mark it anyway. It's a better anniversary than any day one. Nothing happened today. That's the miracle.

This is one day of Unsmoked.
