The call someone's been praying for

Who's been scared for you the longest? Maybe your mom. Maybe your dad, a grandmother, an old friend. They stopped bringing it up after one argument too many, and you took the silence to mean they'd let it go. They didn't. They moved it into their prayers, the ones they never say in front of you. It's been sitting there ever since.

You've been picturing this call as a confession. Something to survive, with a lecture waiting at the end. Turn it around. You're not confessing anything. You're delivering the news they stopped daring to hope for. Nobody else on earth gets to hand it to them. You do.

Picture it. Their phone buzzes on the kitchen counter. They answer a little guarded, the way they always do. You say one plain sentence. I stopped. A pause. Then a sound you haven't heard from them in a long time, a laugh that cracks in the middle. That's what your freedom sounds like from the other side.

Make the call while the news is fresh. Say it in the first minute instead of circling it for twenty. Then go quiet and let them have it. If they cry, let them. If they thank God out loud, thank Him with them. Very few people ever get to make a call like this. You get to be the answer to somebody's prayer.
