Becoming free

Shaky reps still count

Letting a craving pass the first few times is like lifting a moving box someone labeled “books.” Heavier than it looks. Arms shaking. Jaw tight. Sure you're about to drop it. And then you carry it all the way to the other room.

The shaking isn't failure. It's a muscle getting used, and used muscles grow. The cigarette convinced you that you couldn't carry one hard feeling without it. Every urge you've outlasted since says otherwise. Your strength was there all along, waiting for work.

Every rep adds a little. A craving you rode out in line at the store. A trigger you walked straight through. A rough evening you finished anyway. People who've been free a long time make it look easy. They aren't stronger by nature. They've just done more reps.

Do one small hard thing on purpose today. The chore you keep dodging. The walk in bad weather. Then notice you did it without a cigarette to get you through. You're never lifting alone, either. God's got a hand under the heavy end. The hard days are where the strength gets made.
