Becoming free
Remember the one that worked?
There was one, early on, that really landed. A certain night, a certain crowd, a feeling of arriving somewhere you'd been trying to get to. It was real enough that you went looking for it again. And again. Then, without telling you, it stopped showing up. The looking kept going anyway.
That's tolerance, not weakness. A body meets the same thing over and over and adjusts, so the same dose buys less. It's like replaying a song to catch the chill it gave you the first time. The notes are all there. The chill stays gone. Every one after that was a rerun sold as a premiere.
Most of what came after wasn't enjoyment. You were auditioning each one for a part only that one night could play. That part was written for a body that barely knew nicotine. You're not giving up a pleasure. You're calling off a search.
That arriving feeling is real, and God hid it in plenty of places. A trail you haven't walked. A room full of people who know your name. A skill that finally clicks in your hands. Put one of them on the calendar today, something new enough to make your stomach flip. Go find it where it really lives.
