Becoming free

Quitting is the wrong word

Say “quitting” out loud and it sounds like subtraction. Like walking away with less. But look at what's stacking up. Money that stays in your account. Evenings that belong to you. Mornings without the errand. A little more trust in yourself every day. This isn't a teardown. It's a build.

The story you tell yourself matters here. Someone giving something up feels poorer every day, and eventually wants their stuff back. Someone building feels richer every day. The cigarette was never building anything. It ran the wrecking crew and called it relaxing. Nobody bulldozes a house that's halfway up to get the empty lot back.

You know that lot down the street where nothing seems to happen for weeks? A hole. Some rebar. A crew that looks like it's standing around. Then one morning there are walls, and soon a roof. Foundations are slow, then everything shows at once. God drew the plans. You get to lay the brick.

Walk the site today and pick the first room. What will you build with what's coming back? A trip with a date on it. A class you've been circling. Money set aside for someone you love. Give it a name. Excuse the mess. Something good is going up here.
