Is this really it?
No countdown to the next one. No running low. No sneaking off, no promises the morning after. Some evenings all that no leaves a strange flatness, and a question slips in. Is this it? You didn't lose excitement. You lost turbulence.
The cigarette wrote the tension, then charged you for the relief. Guilt came next. Then the promise. Then the crash, and the whole show again. Every day had a cliffhanger, and every one ended the same way. It felt like a life happening. It was a treadmill with stage lights. All motion, no distance.
What replaced it doesn't perform. Money that stays put. Evenings that just roll on. A mind that isn't tracking anything. Up close, peace can pass for boring. Give it time and you'll see what it really is. Space to build. God promised peace. He never promised a rush.
Fill some of that space today. Book one thing this week you'd be excited to tell a friend about. A class, a trip, a dinner you'd normally skip. Then, when the flatness asks its question, answer it honestly. Yes, this is it. And nothing's stealing from it anymore.
