Becoming free
Close the question for good
Do you wake up each morning and decide not to rob a bank? Of course not. It doesn't even come up at breakfast. You didn't beat that temptation through grit. You closed the question so long ago you forgot it was open.
The people who make freedom look easy did exactly that. They aren't winning a debate every hour. They stopped holding it. The cigarette survives on maybes. Every “maybe tonight” kept it fed. Each time the question reopens, you spend strength closing it again. A closed question can't be lost.
You can feel the difference in your body. An open question hums all day, like a fridge you only notice when it cuts out. If there's still a hum, some part of you kept a maybe tucked away. “If things get bad enough.” Find that maybe and throw it out.
Make it the way vows get made. Once, before God, out loud. This is closed, Lord. Keep it closed. After that, hard days are just hard days. They come, they pass, and the answer stays where you left it. On the days you're tired, He keeps it shut for you. Decided once. Done deciding.
