Hard days
Today, the bar is on the floor
Not every day has to be a triumph. On a heavy day, lower the bar all the way down to the only thing that actually matters: don't light the fuse. That's it. That's the whole assignment. Everything else — productivity, mood, being pleasant — is officially optional until tomorrow.
There's real wisdom in this, not just comfort. Freedom isn't lost on the good days; it's lost on days like this one, when everything feels pointless and the old escape hatch starts looking reasonable. So on days like this, you don't need to win big. You just need to not lose. A draw counts.
And notice — by that one honest measure, you're succeeding right now. Reading this instead of smoking. Heavy, tired, unimpressed with life, and still free. That's not a lesser version of the streak. On a day like today, that's the streak at its most impressive.
Get to tonight however you need to. Blankets, bad TV, early sleep, a short prayer handing God the pieces you can't carry — all of it fair. Tomorrow may well be lighter. But even if it isn't, you'll meet it the same way: still free, one floor-level day at a time.
