Hard days

This is hard — and you're still here

Let's be honest: quitting can stir things up. For years a cigarette was the thing you reached for whenever a feeling got too big — stress, sadness, boredom, anger. Take that away and the feelings show up without their usual muffler. That's uncomfortable. It's also exactly how you heal.

The trap's deepest trick was convincing you that you couldn't handle your own feelings without it. That was never true. You're proving it false right now, today, by feeling something hard and staying free anyway. That's not weakness leaking out — it's strength growing in.

You're learning a new skill: to feel a thing, let it move through you, and not numb it. It's awkward at first, like any new skill. But every time you do it, you teach yourself that you are someone who can sit with life as it is — and that person doesn't need a cigarette to cope.

So don't judge the heaviness. Notice it, breathe, bring it to God, and let it pass like everything passes. You're still here, still free. On a day like today, that's a quiet act of courage.
