Beating cravings
Your sink beats this craving
This one you can beat without an ounce of willpower. A lot of the urge lives in your mouth. A taste memory. A dryness. A very specific expectation. Mouths are easy to change. Get to the nearest sink. Your legs can go while your head's still arguing.
Grab mouthwash if you have it. No mouthwash? A strong mint works, or plain cold water. Swish it hard for a full minute and let it sting a little. Then run the tap cold and splash your face twice. You can't smoke with your cheeks full of mint. The cigarette has been squatting in your mouth like it owns the place. Cold and mint are the eviction notice.
An urge peaks and fades within minutes, and you're spending its loudest stretch at the sink. No staring it down. No arguing. Spit, dry your face, and look up at the mirror. Wet face, sharp mouth, wide awake. Whatever's left is quieter than what walked you to the sink.
Set up the rematch now. A tin of strong mints in your bag, your desk drawer, your coat pocket, wherever urges like to ambush you. Make the good move the closest move. Next time, ask God for just enough strength to get to the sink, and let Him walk there with you. Fresh mouth, cold face, and this round went your way.
