Beating cravings
The brightest room is outside
Step outside on the grayest day and you're standing in more light than the brightest room indoors. Your eyes know the difference. Right now the afternoon's gone flat and itchy, and the urge keeps circling. Put your shoes on and go stand under the open sky for ten minutes. Not the doorway. All the way out.
Daylight isn't a mood trick. It's an input. It helps lift the afternoon slump, and the slump is a big part of why this hour feels so hard. Walk if you can. Stand still if you can't. Leave the phone in your pocket and give the sky a proper look. This is the cheapest help you'll get all day.
It pays you twice. Light now helps set the clock that decides how easily you fall asleep tonight. Better sleep makes tomorrow's urges easier to outlast. The cigarette hijacked a lot of your breaks. This one belongs to you. You're out here for the light, and that's the whole reason.
God hung that light up there long before you needed it, and it's yours for nothing. Stand in it until the ten minutes are up. Tomorrow, around the same time, come back out and do it again, until this hour just means a walk. Ten minutes of sky, and the urge is the only thing that didn't come back inside.
