Beating cravings

Saturday has too much room

Saturday, eleven in the morning. You're standing in the kitchen with the fridge open, not even hungry. And something starts asking. The weekdays had you covered without you noticing. Places to be, people around, a next thing every hour. Take the schedule away and the habit finds the gaps.

Your free time had a squatter, and it called itself downtime. Willpower won't outlast a whole empty afternoon. Nobody's tank is that big. An open day doesn't need more resolve. It needs a shape. Boredom on top of momentum is rest. Boredom on top of nothing is where the reach happens.

Close the fridge. Start with the counter you're leaning on. Clear it and wipe it down, starting now. Five minutes, start to finish. It sounds small, and it's not. It's a direction. A day with a direction is hard to drift out of, and you've just gone from standing around to doing something.

Ask it with the cloth still in your hand. Give this empty day a shape, Lord. Then give the afternoon one fixed point with a time on it. A walk at two. A call at three. Let the rest be as lazy as you like. One clean counter, and the whole Saturday turned around.
