Beating cravings

Same engine, softer brakes

You're not getting weaker today. You're tired. Five hours, maybe less, and everything has an edge on it. The urge showed up early and it won't take the usual no. Nothing about your decision changed overnight. Your sleep did. The craving noticed, and it's trying to cash in.

A tired brain runs the same engine with softer brakes. The part that wants relief right now gets louder. The part that weighs tomorrow gets quieter. That's biology, and it means every no costs more today. You're paying it anyway. That's strength running on fumes. The cigarette never got you through a tired day. It only got you to the next cigarette.

Set a timer for ten minutes and close your eyes. Couch, bed, a chair, wherever you are. You don't have to sleep. Let your jaw hang loose and your hands go heavy. Ten minutes of rest outlasts the loudest stretch of an urge, and you come back with a little more brake. Rest counts as fighting today.

While the timer runs, give God the honest version. I'm tired. Be my strength today. He isn't grading you against some rested version of you. He carries tired people, and today He's carrying you. Tonight, go to bed earlier than feels reasonable. Get to your pillow free, and today goes in the win column.
