Beating cravings

One name, chosen once

Choose the name in this minute, so you never have to choose it in a worse one. When the pull is loud, every contact comes with a reason attached. Too busy. Will lecture. Will worry. Thinks you're fragile. You scroll and scroll and nothing gets sent. That scroll is the cigarette buying itself four more minutes.

Pick one person. Not a support network, not a group chat. The bar is lower than you think. They don't have to have been through this. Wisdom is optional. So is being good with feelings. They only need to be someone who answers.

Give them the job now, because a named job is easy to say yes to. Text them. You're my person for the hard minutes. When I message, just answer. No fixing needed. Then pin that chat to the top of your phone. You're asking for a witness, not a rescue.

Most people are relieved to be told exactly what's wanted from them. And notice whose name came to mind first. God has a way of putting people within reach before you know you'll need them. Next time it gets loud, there's no scrolling. There's a name at the top.
