Beating cravings

It cost you one. Not the week.

One slip. That's the whole bill the cigarette gets to send you. It's paid, and no amount of regret refunds it. The story you're about to tell yourself wants to add the rest of the week. The week is still untouched, and it's in your hands.

You already know it wasn't what you wanted. Saying it eleven more times in harsher words adds nothing. It only leaves you feeling like a person who does this, and that person has no reason to stop at one. Beating yourself up isn't repair. It's the setup for round two.

Forget the fresh start. No waiting for Monday, no clean slate. Those only put a gap between now and the next try, and the gap is where the damage grows. Miss an exit and your GPS doesn't make you start the trip over. It reroutes from right where you are. Whatever's left, walk it out to the outside bin now. That's your reroute.

Every free hour before this still counts. Nothing got deleted. God didn't flinch, and He isn't waiting for you to grovel first. Tell Him the truth in one breath, then let Him walk the next hour with you. You're not back at the start. You're a few minutes into the next free hour.
