Beating cravings
Dry mouth, wrong diagnosis
Count what you've had to drink today. A coffee or two. Maybe a soda. Water that never quite happened. Now notice the dry mouth, the slightly tight head, and the pull toward one specific thing. Thirst doesn't show up with a label on it. It arrives as restless and wanting. Something's missing. That's all it says.
Your mouth has been dry plenty of times, and it usually got the old answer. The cigarette never quenched a single one. It just talked over your thirst until you forgot it was there. So your body still files thirst under the wrong name. That's not a flaw in you. It's a filing mistake, and one right answer starts fixing it.
Fill a real glass. Cold water if you can get it. Drink it slowly, in mouthfuls, with a breath between each one. Slow is the whole point. It gives the signal time to update, and it keeps your hands and mouth busy right while the urge peaks. It's hard to feel deprived with a cold glass in your hand.
Empty glass? Check on that urgent thing from five minutes ago. Some days it's gone. Other days it's smaller and slower, easy to let drift past. Either way, you met it with a real answer instead of a guess. God's in the small stuff with you, right down to a glass of water. A lot of that emergency was plumbing, and you just fixed it.
